THE SJMV SERVING DIOCESES

Opened in 1988, the International Seminary of Ars welcomes young men who want to be priests from around the whole world. Under the responsibility of the Society of St John-Mary Vianney, it has the mission of forming diocesan priests near to the presence of the Curé of Ars, according to the guidance and directives of the Church. It insists on the foundations of the spiritual life, academic work, strong community life and an openness to the differing realities found in the world and the Church. Progressively, pastoral formation takes place, linking up with parishes and movements.

Ars is most certainly a place blessed by a seminary and an association of priests. The Curé of Ars shows us the way to make a complete gift of oneself, for the glory of God and the salvation of the world. Here the Lord loves to work with simple and poor means. His action is only made more obvious that way. Découvrir la SJMV

A COMPLETE AND QUALITY FORMATION

The International Seminary offers the possibility of completing the full course of seminary formation in Ars: a year of discernment, the philosophy cycle and the theology cycle. The formation is assured by the priests of the seminary, as well as by many contributors from outside the seminary, making it solid, faithful to the Magisterium and anchored in the needs of the present time. The presence of the Curé of Ars, who made it key point throughout his ministry to be continually formed, gives a momentum and a missionary vision which makes formation truly dynamic.

A FORMATION LIVED IN THE GRACE OF ARS

Marked by the grace of Ars and the charism of the Society of St John-Mary Vianney, the seminary accomplishes its mission of forming priests who, following the Curé of Ars, wish to be made holy by making their brothers holy. To live in the seminary, the school of the Gospel, means following Christ like the Apostles, and allowing oneself to be placed by Christ at the service of the Father and of men, under the guidance of the Holy Spirit, and to be configured to Christ the Good Shepherd, so as to render a more faithful priestly service in the Church, for the world. Being formed for the priesthood means being trained to give a personal answer to the most basic question posed by Christ: “Do you love me?” The response, for the future priest, can only be the complete gift of one’s whole life.
